Details of electricity consumption and production in Romania by county and year

Welcome! The state of a country’s economy, the performance and magnitude of its industry can be analysed in a very suggestive way by shedding light on the country’s energy consumption. In a developed, industrialised economy, non-household consumers of electricity and natural gas, i.e. factories and industrial platforms, are the main beneficiaries of the energy produced, and their consumption is equal in proportion to their industrial output, their market success and the number of jobs they create. Of course, each region according to its economic specificities presents different consumption and production data, and this map is here to help us with the use of official data in understanding Romania’s performance.

On the interactive map below, you can find all the data on electricity consumption and production in our country by year or county. In the first table you will find significant data for the whole of Romania, and in the panel on the right, once you have clicked on a county, you will be able to view the consumption, production and sources of production in that county, and compare the annual and regional variations of these indicators.

The map was created at the initiative of the Chairman of the Romanian Senate’s Energy Committee, Senator Antal Lóránt, using data requested from distribution operators, industry associations, Transgaz and Transelectrica companies, and the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).

The values for consumption by county are measured in MWh and for the whole country in GWh (1000 MWh = 1 GWh). Production values are measured in MW (1 MW = 1000 KW).
